Who me...!!

Who is this inside me which keeps on asking questions to me at every step, every day

  • If what I see is correct
  • If what I listen is correct
  • If what I do is correct
  • Am I fighting for right things
  • Do I see what I should see
  • Am I ignoring my inner self
  • Am I the person I wanted to be

Don’t know, not sure about what I should reply to all these. I just choose to have these thoughts in mind and “Keep walking”. Maybe someday, somewhere I will stop and answer all of these..!!

Feelings of being at India gate..!!

I completed my two years of existence in this walled city few days back. Out of whatever which fascinated me most over here, the most prominent is India Gate. Now even I don't remember how many times I have been to this place.  One of my friend calls me "Mangal Pandey of 21st centuray" because of my habit of being at this place so many times.

My first visit there left me speechless and I was standing there for hours in front of Amar Jawan Jyoti. I always wanted to be there and I finally was there just looking at it.
Then from that day started the story of me being at India gate whenever I feel like getting away from everything around.

Now whenever I go there, I can feel myself much better connected to it, better than the previous times. Every time I see this Amar Jawan Jyoti, it looks different to me, although I doubt if now people really give importance to it.

Normally I had seen people going there for partying and dating, I wonder if this is the place for them to be there? These people are the reason for the mess they leave behind every day at India Gate, which pains a lot to anyone who visits that place for its magic and importance. Also these types force Delhi police to be rude to everyone because they treat that place just like another picnic spot.

PS: Like always special thanks to Devesh Singh for allowing me to use his pictures :)

Nomadic viewpoint....!!

I don't remember exactly when I decided to change my life and become a nomad. A nomad is someone who does not possess nor is tied to a particular location and are commonly known as itinerants in modern-day contexts. There are nomad communities of people who move from one place to another, rather than settling permanently in one location. There are an estimated 30-40 million nomads in the world. Many cultures have traditionally been nomadic, but traditional nomadic behavior is increasingly rare in industrialized countries. Nomads are sometimes also referred to as perpetual travelers/ tourists.
I wished I could do this full time , but unfortunately earning is the other side of story which now takes over in terms of importance when compared to nomadic view. You need to earn to support your nomadic thought process. Whenever I am outside, traveling I forget everything about my profession, my work pressure and the targets and deadlines for project delivery (this can also be a reason for me being more interested in being a nomad). I feel like being part of everything which is happening around myself (this feeling I am not able to achieve till date in my professional life) where no everyone is ready to come to me, listen to me, talk to me and have a simple cup of tea for no visible financial benefit. People who never care about how much I earn, which car I drive, which brand I wear, which watch I have, which mobile phone I use.
All they want to know is if I liked the tea or samosa I had with them or what I feel about them or their place. I can see that everyone is running after money, negotiating for higher salary, planning to purchase one more house from bonus and still not satisfied with what they are possessing.  The couple who is working, but still  hungry for more and more money. There is very thin line between need and greed. Need can be fulfilled but greed is very difficult to satisfy. I wonder why they never see what they have got already and maybe that is  much more that what they are capable of. Just because they got more doesn't indicates that they are capable of having all that. People fight for the basic needs of life and are still much happier than those who are earning in huge amounts.
How much does anyone needs, what can be considers as fulfilling, which thing can ensure peace of mind or a sound sleep, how much land will be enough are few question which are and will remain unanswered for ever. People go for vacations to various hotels but I keep on wondering what can be different in a hotel room from my own room apart from few cosmetic goodies. In my view if someone really wants to enjoy a vacation, he/she should try to get closer more and more to mother nature. I strongly believe that this vacation will surely change, enhance or boost the inner self of anyone taking that vacation. The basic purpose of vacation should be to re-invent and explore inner self and not to experience more and more artificial world around. A vacation at a natural habitat will for sure help them evolve better as a human being.

A luxurious five star is not the only thing that can make a place entitled to be categorized as travel destination  or any place worth being called as exotic. Its the connectivity to nature which makes you feel it as an exotic or vacation destination.

All the can be treated as completely a nomadic viewpoint on vacations or life and may feel absurd and useless characters to may of the readers, but that's what differentiates me as a "Nomad" in the crowd of hundreds and thousands of people around me and I am absolutely fine if you do not like it this way. You have got your life and its completely your wish on how would you like to spend it and how would you like to remember in years to come.

Past few days…!!

Here I am sitting at 40 thousand feet, cruising at 700 km/hr and rewinding things which happened in last few days.

Everyday started with lots and lots of uncertainty, lots of chaos, some learning from past some plans for the future. Every day after getting up, I took some time to look around and realise, where am I. Once I feel the place I was in, I used to move out of bed, reluctantly to start the day. And then it all starts, numerous calls, verifying check lists and saying..shit..I missed this. Then rushing for the breakfast and the day starts. Running around people to get things done, trying to reach out to people to align them for our planned activity for the day. For me it was a target, a passion but for them, it was a routine and I was someone who was interfering with their daily life.

Initially everyone resisted me and my presence in their lives, but slowly they started accepting me. It was a nice feeling to be part of their lives, eat what they are eating, drink what they are drinking, think what they are thinking and fell their feelings. it continued for 2-3 more days and then it was time to say good bye. My time with them was over, I have to move ahead for my next assignment. Although few days back, I was no one to them, but while leaving their place, I felt as if I am part of them and their life.

It feels bad to move out from their place but it also contained a hope that there are few more people waiting for me to barge into their lives and be a part of that. Life moves on, never stops for anyone and its the same thing which I have to do.

Are they too supposed to follow the rules.....!!

Here I am sitting inside train, wondering if only I and fellow civilians are supposed to follow the rules laid down by "The Government of India" or  it applies to everyone including the people who are serving in armed forces.

When our train reached Agra Cantonment, I stepped out to have stroll and was really shocked to see a army vehicle parked bang opposite to my coach on platform no 1. The vehicle was surely belonging to some big shot, it was with a red light on it, a alert driver in uniform and 2-3 more guys waiting for the Sahab to get down from the train. Wow..!!

IMAG0015

I am  really shocked to see this. When ex-prime minister don't have a right to drive his own vehicle on the platform, I wonder if there are separate rules for the armed forces. If this is how the resources are being used from the money I am paying as tax, I rather prefer not to pay tax anymore, I refuse to pay tax now and I want all my money paid as tax (even though its too small) back. Or else, I request authorities to give me right also to drive in my vehicle to the platform whenever I am traveling by train.

Come on, reply to me guys, me and every taxpayer like me is waiting...!!

A vacation you will never forget...!!

I have no idea how many of you had ever tried a eco-holiday or eco-tourism. These words may look fashionable marking term used to promote tourism but if you ever try to understand what exactly they mean, they are very simple.

The idea itself of taking a break from our daily routine life and moving more and more towards nature will look like a crazy one to most of the people. Forget about going on a vacation at a place like this, where you will be spending money but won't be getting Jacuzzi or a personal swimming pool. The idea itself will look weird to most of us. They may end up experiencing this vacation as a guilt trip instead. How can someone pay for a vacation in today's times to get nothing of these so called luxuries, with no mobile, no Internet or no television?  No, I am not interested..will be the reaction from most of us.

Now think of a place in Kumaon, where only bus you can catch is bus number 11, your own legs to explore the place. Or at Haridwar, where you have to climb a 7,000 feet high mountain by yourself for trekking. Or at Kanha national park, where you can travel across the park fastest in a bullock cart, where food is organic and the wheat in your bread is pounded in a water mill, at a near by village not at any big food processing factory.

The adventure package may include walking across the villages accompanied by porters who helps you in identifying the places, flora, natural resources around and sometimes will assist in carrying your luggage, or staying every night at different rest house across villages, or having local delicacies cooked on either solar cooker or dung cakes but no electric ovens or LPG, in night you may have some dim bulbs glowing, thanks to usage of solar power or else you can sit in the varandah and enjoy the breeze. For the health freaks, you will get packaged drinking water, a chance to go for a cycling trip across the terrain, a swim in fresh water rivers with no contaminations. And above all a rejuvenated body and soul that none of the so called healing spa sessions can provide.

Although most of us reading this write-up may not be much enthusiastic and eager to take all these challenges, there are people who prefer to take a break for a vacation at one of these places. And yes I belong to that crazy category.

Give this a thought next time when you are planning a holiday, remember, your life is calling, where are you...??

Why don’t people understand???

It was while I was travelling on Howrah-Delhi Rajdhaani yesterday, I again had an experience. I was sharing my cabin with five other people, two moms and two daughters and one of their friend. My god they never stopped their chit chatting for the whole journey, they were like talking machine. Both Aunti ji were really irritating. Their grown up daughters were also funny, playing Ludo along with Snakes and ladder, both makeup boxes. One of them created a scene while trying to reach to the upper berth, everyone were laughing watching the drama by her. I couldn’t stop laughing. She was happily sitting on my berth and never ever asked me if I wanted to sit at my place. When after dinner I wanted to sleep at around 9.00 PM they said they want to sit for some time after dinner and I have to wait. Finally I got my place at around 10.30 PM and I started my laptop for watching movie, to which also the Aunty ji had an objection, gave me good gyan and I have to shut it down. Somehow managed to sleep which was again interrupted by her at 6.45 AM saying that its too late and she won’t allow me to sleep just because she wanted to sit now. I was too sleepy to argue and I shifted to upper berth. She also told me that while travelling I should adjust to other’s requirements also. I wonder what else I should have done to please them. How shameless are these who never care for anyone while travelling and will give full time gyan to others about adjusting while travelling in public transport. If they need so much care why the hell she was travelling in AC 3 tier, she could have opted for AC 1st class and other’s would had travelled in peace.

I hate these types and believe that they should be thrown out of the train for all this dramatic behaviour.

Indian crawling in slow motion…

I was once again back on track with railways for my visit to my parent’s place. Usually I had enjoyed travelling with Indian Railways till date and this travel was also nothing new. But again as always I came across few things that I am jotting down. I booked this ticket in a hurry but was confirmed with the help of one relative sitting at Railway headquarters. Long live Babus in our democracy. It was a pleasant surprise to see people responsible for keeping train clean visiting and cleaning the coach three four times in just less than 24 hours but it was unpleasant to find food pathetic this time. It was pleasant to see that ticket checker was asking for the identity proof but it was unpleasant to see that air-condition needs conditioning.

I also came across flying squad guys who were having free snacks at pantry coach in train, after one successful capture of an elderly uncle who was travelling without ticket. The uncle was also smart, after so many attempts these squad guys were unable to extract a single rupee from him as bribe. He insisted on receipt and they insisted on off the record settlement. After one hour of trial and discussions they finally gave up and uncle ji left the place smiling. It looked as if having free food was their legal right and they had negotiated this as a part of their CTC. There was not even a single GRP personal in the train for past twenty hours, which again surprises me. Is there in any change in rule regarding serving terms and conditions for railways staff?

This corruption, negligence and arrogance among the elite babus is one of the major reasons holding back India from growing. Although India has been ranked as one of the fastest growing economies but its also considered as one of the poorly managed economy. Its like India Inc. would like to fire its all cylinders but can’t as the road ahead is bumpy. India really is crawling in slow motion towards growth and thriving to become a economic superpower. Lets hope to see that dream and vision realising soon.

Life line of the city…local trains

Yesterday I had an experience of my life. Because of some prior commitments I travelled from my residence to one of the extremes of Kolkata (I am still confused, although Kolkata is not so huge but it never ends also). My god, that entire travel was awesome. I somehow managed to reach Sealdah station to catch a local train, I said somehow because it started to rain while I was on the way and traffic came to a standstill. I purchased a ticket for my travel after so many consultations over phone with multiple navigators who were supposed to keep track on my movement. Amazingly the fares are still very cheap. For a travel of 45 minutes all I paid was just seven Rupees.

Incidentally this was my first ever attempt or first ever dare to travel in any local train. This was a mixed feeling of excitement and concern as I always prefer to avoid all this messy means of travelling. These are called as life lines of the cities they carry. Even my maid also uses this to reach at my place in morning. Although she has to start as early as 4.00 AM to reach in time. I always wondered how she was able to manage all this. So back to the journey. I entered the local and managed to get a place near the window. Each seat looked as it was meant for three people and four were occupying it.

The train started bang on time without any delay but by the time it started it was jam packed. It was a mixed bag of people, some returning from job, some returning from college, few were vendors offering various products like lassi, snacks and even ayurvedic medicine and very few like me travelling for the first time. But the situation was really pathetic as you can see in the picture below

local train Kol

On reaching the destination, I completed my pre-fixed commitment and then moved to a Govt Guest house for taking rest. It was a location situated on the banks of Hoogly river. The location was an excellent one but very poorly maintained. The view of river was awesome.

IMAGE_036The overall feeling and experience was a good one. Although it was a pleasant one but I would always prefer to avoid travelling through locals in this city as it was not an experience I would like to have again.

I believe the guest house can earn a lot more attraction if it maintained properly and of course the situation in trains should be lot better. Also they should think of providing First class as in Mumbai locals, so that people can think of that as an viable option instead of wasting money and fuel on taxies and cars.

Road – Pic - Trip

Few days back it was a lazy weekend approaching when I got an invite from Jamy for lunch at his place on Sunday afternoon which I happily accepted. Any invite from Jamy is meant to be accepted unconditionally as it is always bound to be a fun session. Every time I had been to his place, he is always ready with surprises and we had all enjoyed every time.

I was joined by Opium and KG for that lunch. We had a splendid round of Rajma-Rice-Curry along with Raita. All this was followed by a round of mango delicacy courtesy KG. We all were relaxing after that awesome treat, sting when we had an idea of going out for a road trip. Opium opted out owing sleeping disorders of his but rest of us three proceeded towards an unknown destination .

IMG_4955We crossed people enjoying an careless evening at Maidan and Victoria Memorial as we proceeded towards our unknown destination.

IMG_4964 IMG_4966

From there we headed towards second Hoogly bridge with an intention to have a drive at highway. I was especially excited as this was the first time I was going to those places in my stint at Kolkata.

IMG_4973Crossed toll bridge and continued to drive towards Delhi on NH06 although KG wanted to drive towards Mumbai but Jamy smilingly turned down his repeated request.

IMG_4979

The view all around was very refreshingly green and lovely reminding me of one of my older trips to country sides.

IMG_4987

IMG_4995

By the time we reached Kona expressway it had already started raining and we were enjoying each and every moment of that.

IMG_4990  IMG_4994

By this time it was getting dark and we were also feeling hungry so we decided to give rest to our engines and cylinders to cool off.

IMG_5002And then it was time for Begun & Aloo Bhaja along with cups of tea served hot complimented with Parle-G.

IMG_5000 IMG_5001

After finishing all this we decided to take a U turn and started our journey back towards our dens. It was raining all the way back adding to the pleasure of the journey.

Enjoyed this Road-Pic-Trip to the most and looking forward to so many detoxifying and revitalising moments like this soon with you guys…!

Kolkata...My maiden visit

I was hearing about this city since I was a kid, from everyone around ...my dad, uncle, their friends and so many people....

Finally landed up here as a part of my career move...On landing here I as amazed to see such old buildings, i never came across any ting like this in my life....joined my company..met few old friends and started searching for a house. When compared to rent in Bangalore the rent was nothing...but the offerings were..ufffffff...

So old that I can't dare to take them...although the rents were very very low....

Meanwhile I enjoyed the biggest festival of Kolkata.."Durga Puja". The place becomes so lively that you can feel the triumph in air and surroundings. People keep on "hopping pandals" through out the night...u can find modes of communication throughout the night...and everything surprisingly at no extra cost (comparing with 1.5 times meter at Bangalore during night)

Bad part was the handricksaw pullers....i wonder politicians care about PETA but no one looks for them....they all can get a normal cycle ricksaw in the cost of one official flight trip of any MP/MLA..but wonder why they are still there like that??

Food is excellent irrespective of where you are having it, it tastes like heaven everywhere....

You can just roam around with no work, enjoy bhunja, paani poori (phuchka) or samosas on roadside and trust me you'll never be disappointed by the taste here...you get an excellent lemon masala tea for just two rupees (FMCG companies should rethink plan for their similar products) and where ever you try this taste will always be refreshingly same.

I am more than happy to be here and will be exploring the city and people as and when possible!!

An Ode to Bhopali.....

I used to stay very close to Bhopal (capital of Madhya Pradesh) and visited that place very frequently. So couldn't resist myself from writing about the essence, the flavour of Bhopal.

So here we go.........

Bhopali, also known as Bhopali Bakar or Bhopali Urdu, is a vernacular form of Hindustani language spoken primarily in Bhopal, India. On the streets of Bhopal, people from every part of Bhopal co-exist and add to the already existing vocabulary.

Bhopal is famous for four things "Parda/Zarda/Garda/Naamarda".
The first of the four words
1) 'Parda' is for symbolizing the old tradition of having Burqa clad ladies which you'll come across in scores on the streets of Bhopal.
2) The second 'Zarda' symbolizes yet another tradition of chewing Tobacco with 'Paan', which is in vogue till today. You can still find pan stalls all over the city in scores.
3) The third 'Garda' is for the dusty roads one came across in the old days of yore.
4) 'Naamarda' refers to the eunuchs reciding in the older areas of the city, specifically Itwaara, Somwara and Mangalwara. They dance at various occasions such as marriage and birth of a child, and demand for money.

Most famous Fast-food of Bhopal is "Bun Kabab" (along with namak waali chai) and "Pohe Jalebee (My favourite)". Easily available on the streets of old city, these small eateries are a meeting point for many.

Well one more very interesting thing about our Bhopal.
There is a railway track which divides this city into two parts,if are facing towards ITARSI side, then on the right side of the track its new part of bhopal, and at the left had of the track its the old city still reatining the tradition. Arera colony,Shahpura,10 no Bitthan Market are all of the new bhopal. While Itwara, Somwara, Mangalwara, Budhwara, Jumeraati, Loha Bazaar, Chowk, Taliya, Shajanabaad, kotwaali Hamidia road are all of the old city. Generally, to feel the tradition of bhopal one has to be in this part of the bhopal. People of bhopal are very lovely people. They always be ready to help anyone. Till 70's there was "Patiya Baazi" was one of the bhopali tradition. Actually, the Patiya Baazi is a sort of people gossip in the old city. These talks were held on the cement slabs which were laid in front of the houses during the State time. A variety of topics ranging from the politics to entertainment were dicussed here. Many legendry indian politicians also had this Patiya Baazi at their youth.

Mysore...@ 15-08-2007

I visited Mysore (A place near Bangalore, Karnataka) on this 15th Aug.

Those who don't know the place I must tell that this is place which witnessed the fight between Tipu Sultan and the English army. This is the place which experience the royals of Wadyars'. This is the place famous for the biggest training center of IT giant Infosys.

We started our day unusually pretty early in the morning @ 06:05 am. This early start is because of the punctuality of the hosts

We had our early morning tea just before leaving Bangalore and started after filling ours and car's tank. very soon we were all cruising on the highway..

I am always amazed and excited with the very talk of travelling, so this was one of the happiest day for me. Cruising all the way we had a pit stop at one of the CCD on the pretext of having something as a breakfast (this CCD was a good one, i was not disappointed with the service)We all had our snacks and started again.

This was my second visit to Mysore. So unlike last visit, I wanted to visit very selective places. We started with Chamunda temple. The greenery was awesome all around.

Once I thought of going inside the temple, but after seeing the queue i gave up the idea. So roamed around, visited a nearby temple, had a few sips of Mazza and came back from there.

I saw people crossing roads on Zebra lines and policemen promptly doing there service at 12:00 noon. This forced me to believe that people still follow rules , if rules are being implemented properly. That was a very rare scene for any one from Bangalore. After all this we were hungry again and had a good, exciting and tasty food. We all loved that (wish we could get same at Bangalore)

Finally we headed to Mysore Palace, this place reminds me of the lavish lives Wadyars used to live and see today we are struggling to get a piece of land in our name (actually this was the comment of my friend, not mine!). We spent around 2-3 hours there, took a lot of snaps, relaxed and started again.

Our final stop was St. Philomena Church. Although that place was having a aura of peace, but the people working there were very rude, I saw one of the guys manhandling a visitor who was taking snaps inside(although photography was not allowed inside). But he could had told that in a more polite way. After all we were not standing on a road, we were inside a sacred place. For me that was a architectural piece of excellence and the same place where "Amar Akbar Anthony"
movie was shot.

Finally after a eventful day we started our journey back to Bangalore. On the way we had a race with passing train(somewhat like Dil Chahta Hai), had a pit stop again at the same CCD, met with a little shower of rain and finally reached out place at around 11.00 pm.

These type of day outs energises me a lot although I get exhausted physically but my mind and souls gets charged. Will miss all these travel partners once I move out of this place.

How do people survive

I just returned from my trip to mumbai, during my stay over there for past 5 days, i have been traveling a lot all through nariman point to wadala (e). A long stretch of road between these two places near to "Cotton Green" area was nothing but slums made upon the encrotchments of pavements. All the people living there nothing but the refugees from the Bangladesh. And to my surprise, they had made their home with two floors, ground and first. I can see each and every member of the house on road during any time of day.

I can't think how they managed to survive. There were as many as 10 people living in a temporary room of size 5 x 2 meter. How come they manage to live is one of the most surprising question for me?

I asked the cab driver and he replied with a slang "sahab, yeh saale to sirf chori kartain hain " (Sir, these people make their living only by theft and robbery). I came to know by the driver that they are the one involved in all the thefts related to the highways and dockyard. The cab driver laughed and said "Sahab, aur to aur apni sarkar bolti hai Mumbai ko Paris banayegee, NAMUMKEEN" (Sir, and our govt. says it will convert Mumbai into Paris, IMPOSSIBLE)

Also to my surprise each family consists of at least 4-5 children, I am unable to understand what these people think about their future, and how do they plan to feed and educated their children. While passing through those streets you can't bear the smell that surrounds that area, just imagine how they manage to live there 24x7.

I was not able to bear all that for more than three days and I changed my travel path.

And on the contrary I have some friends who are single, having a nice job and a good salary but they always complain over the living standard they are having, and those people at Mumbai I had seen are living without any complains.........
